[edit]

LAST NIGHT saw JON PERTWEE enjoying himself again in the return of his eccentric characterisation of Dr. Who. It's grim but true that he has a bad car crash to thank for his new girl sidekick.

Miss KATY MANNING, playing Jo Grant, decided to be an actress when she was laid up for two years after a road accident. "I had played around wanting to be all kinds of things, and was very arty." Katy told me. "The illness made me sort myself out." A daughter of the sports columnist J. L. Manning, Katy is in the midst of moving home.

"Now that 'Dr. Who' has given me a big chance I can leave the shilling-in-the-meter room I've had and get a nice flat," she said. Her boy-friend, steady for three years, sees her only during college holidays. He is studying mime acting in Paris."
