Gay tiff theory on killing

ACTOR Peter Arne, savagely bludgeoned to death in his luxury flat, was to have appeared in TV's next Dr Who series.

He had just returned from a costume fitting when he was murdered, police revealed yesterday.

They believe the 62-year-old actor, a homosexual, was killed in a love-tiff with a boyfriend.

Arne was to have played Dr Range in a four-part Dr Who series due for screening by the BBC next February.

Producer John Nathan Turner said yesterday: "This is terrible. I know Peter was really looking forward to the part —he had always wanted to appear in the series."

Arne—veteran of more than 50 films—played a German officer in TV's Secret Army.

Gentle

He was found dead in his flat at Knightsbridge, London, on Monday after a housekeeper spotted a bloodstained log in the hallway.

His agent Roger Carey said: "This was a brutal, bloody murder. Peter was a wonderful. gentle man."
