No Change. That is the order sent out to the programme planners at the BBC who are organising your autumn and winter television drama shows.
Happy with his audience rating, Mr. Sydney Newman, head of drama at the BBC, said this afternoon that the present dose of drama would be repeated.
Mr. Newman said that his big audience drama series, the Wednesday Play, the prestige Play of the Month, and a new-look Doctor Who would continue to be with us this autumn and winter.
Dr. Finlay's Casebook, Softly Softly and Adam Adamant Lives! and Dr. Who have been so successful that Newman has decided to give them another whirl.
The new series of Play of the Month, will include productions of C. P. Snow's Corridors of Power, H. G. Wells's Days to Come, and a documentary drama about Colonel Petrov's escape from the Russian secret service. called Defection.
When William Hartnell leaves his job with Dr. Who at the end of October, the series will be re-shaped in order to accommodate a replacement.
Who will be the new Dr. Who? Mr. Newman said today that several actors were up for the part. but at the moment the BBC hadn't decided on which one.
