SPECIAL effects engineer Denis Ryan who designed the Daleks in TV's Dr Who collapsed and died of a heart attack after months of starving himself, an inquest heard yesterday.
Ryan, 53, of Lee, South-East London, cut himself off from the outside world after he was made redundant from the BBC in 1982, Southwark Coroners Court was told. He allowed himself to waste away, refusing to eat properly, wash, or get out of bed. Verdict: Death by natural causes.
