[edit]

IT was an invasion so massive that even the great Dr. Who had to admit defeat.

But. in this ease, the Doctor was fighting off not an enemy hut his friends — 40,000 of them.

The fans flocked to Longleat, Wiltshire, yesterday where a two - day exhibition opened to celebrate the BBC show's 20th anniversary.

But so many Who-addicts turned up that the organisms had to close the gates to non-ticket holders by mid-afternoon. The present Dr. Who, Peter Davison, went out to chat to the disappointed fans. Those who did get in could tour film sets and came face to face with Daleks, Cybermen and Ice Warriors.

Some costumes were up for sale—a Cyberman shirt went for £235.
