Although my initial reaction to the new series of Doctor Who (Saturday BBC1) was along the same lines as your correspondents (Feedback, 25 May), I watched more episodes and was pleased that I had. I thought The Devil's Chord (11 May) was brilliant and Boom (18 May), where the Doctor stands on a landmine, was also good. I like the more light-hearted feel of the new series, but it still goes to dark places.

I also try to remember that, at 58, I'm not the target audience - they want to attract a new generation of young viewers.

...I was very impressed by Steven Moffat's storyline in Boom. The statements got home to me that a father's love for his child will overcome all obstacles - and the Doctor cited his experience as a dad, which I hadn't been aware of.

The final remarks that someone could be "dead but not gone" and that "love remains" were poignant. I look forward to the rest of the series.
