Schoolgirl Nicky Danks and Vicki Cooke got a timely shock whan they opened the door at a police telephone box in Birmingham - and out stepped Doctor and his streetwise sidekick Ace.
They brought the TARDIS to Brum to begin perparations for the silver anniversary of Dr Who - 25 years of space adventure.
Nicky and Vicki, both 14m of Studley, near Redditch were stunned when familiar faces peered through the door of TV's best known extraterrestrial transport.
Actor Sylvester McCoy and actress Sophie Aldred were visiting the BBC Pebble Mille studios before signing books at city centre Hudsons.
"There's been tremendous interest in the anniversary and we're delighted to meet the fans are in Brum," said Scots star Sylvester.
"We've tried to make the new series appealing both to the die-hard fans and to the new viewers."
