IT IS a sign of the times that when one sits down to write about the Budget, one's thoughts turn first to science fiction and, in particular, Dr. Who (BBC-1), the current series of which has exceeded all expectations. Peter Davison is the best Doctor yet and the policy of having guest stars, Beryl Reid being the present visitor, enriches the whole affair.
Then there the matter of the Cybermen, who have always been my favourite meanies, and have me curling up in horror upon a small person's knee.
Whatever aliens may be on the go, had they arrived on Tuesday and found themselves in front of a television rental shop, they would have been highly encouraged by the attitude of our planet. "Space invaders not to be taxed," said a flash across the screen.
