The first wife of Dr Who star Jon Pertwee today revealed why she won't be going to his funeral tomorrow. Jean Marsh, who played Rose in the hit 70s serial Upstairs, Downstairs, says she would be intruding on his family's grief. Jean, 61, who married the star in 1955, told PA News: "It would be intrusive to go. Jon's death was a tragedy for the whole family - he was young and so active. "The last thing I want to do is an 'actressy' display of grief at the funeral." Jean, who now lives in Hammersmith, London, said: "I don't think I'll be invited. I don't believe his family even know where I live." Their marriage lasted barely 18 months before they split and Jean admits it was probably doomed from the start. "I was much younger than he was and I just changed. It wasn't right to get married and it was a mistake. "We were married for about 18 months and I moved to America for three years and we divorced after that. He was famous then but I was nobody." But she still has joyous memories. "What I most remember about Jon was his enthusiasm and the amount of interests he had. "I also loved travelling with him when he was on tour. He would tell such funny stories and sing to me." Pertwee, 76, who died last Monday, found TV fame in 1970 a year before Jean became known to millions as Rose - the Bellamys' servant girl in Upstairs, Downstairs. Pertwee had later married German-born Ingeborg Rhosea. His widow has reportedly requested a low-key private funeral in Britain but is not releasing its location.
