METALLIC JEWEL FINISH FOR DR WHO CAR Recently completed for the Dr Who television sees is a custom built car, nicknamed the 'Alien'. A three-wheeled vehicle, the glass fibre body is costed in a sparkling metallic jewel finish and in powered by an 975 cc Sports long engine.
The Alien, which has a distinctive appearance was designed and built for Jon Pertwee of the BBC series by PCF Motors of Nottingham.
Shaped to resemble a flying-saucer, the Dr. Who car has a number of striking extras to blend in with the programme's character. These include dummy rocket motors, huge radio antennae and an instrument panel containing many gadgets.
In the picture above John Pertwee tries out the Alien in a deserted London street his young son along for the ride.
Readers will remember that Peter Farries of PCF Motors Nottingham, was also responsible for building Berger's Von 4000 car as displayed at the 1973 Motor Show. (Described fully in our last issue)
Both custom built cars were driven by Peter and a colleague from Nottingham to Harrogate for exhibition at the Beiger Paints Decorative Sales Conference in December As can be imagined their passage along the motorways and though the towns en route attracted attention ... and many used eyebrows.
Over 500 delegates to the Conference, including trade journal editors and paint merchants inspected these two unique and fascinating examples of custom-cars with the superb Berger finish.
