[edit]

As a cable subscriber, I feel that I must protest the removal of WCET from the Viacom lineup. Even though it is PBS like Channel 16, it carries some original programming of its own — old movies, classic TV shows, as well as some British imports. One of my favorites was Dr. Who, which is becoming quite a hit here in America.

Is this the kind of service that deregulation of the cable industry gets us? So to all you Dr. Who fans, call up and complain, now! I did!

ROBERT STEWART Jr. Dayton

Call your congressman, not your cable company. They're only doing what the government, in a deregulation frenzy, authorized them to do in the Cable Television Policy Act of 1984. Now the cable industry is having serious public relations problems and faces hearings before the House Telecommunications and Finance subcommittee. The subject: Why rates are going up and public TV stations are going out.
