Q. We've been watching "Dr. Who" on Channel 39 out of Dallas and would like to know who "Who" is and what powers he has.

A. We didn't find a lot of information about "Dr. Who."

In the original movie, "Dr. Who and the Daleks" (1956), Peter Cushing played Dr. Who. He was a scientist (no special type mentioned) who had invented a time machine. If he had any supernatural powers, they weren't mentioned in the reviews.

Bill Whitaker, our entertainments editor and resident expert on odd movies, says there was at least one more movie starring Jon Pertwee as Dr. Who.

Tom Baker has the role in the television series and, as far as we've been able to determine, he's still bumping around the universe in his frequently malfunctioning time machine.

If there are any knowledgeable Dr. Who buffs out there, we'd be interested in knowing more. For instance, who is Who? Surely he had a name at one time.
