In a recent column, you ran a letter from a reader about who Invented the TARDIS on Dr. Who. It all depends on whether you're talking about the movie version or the TV series. In the films, he was the inventor. In the TV series, he stole an early model TARDIS from a museum on his home planet, Gallifrey. He was regarded there as a renegade and somewhat eccentric. The TARDIS has the ability to change its appearance, but upon its theft, the Time Lords locked it into the shape of a police callbox. For a while, they had the good doctor do their dirty work by controlling his destination. Eventually, he was given partial control and released from his renegade status. Some miscellaneous information on the TARDIS: Its interior is at least three stories tall; it has medical facilities; and it's able to interface with the Great Key of Time on the planet Gallifrey. At one time, Dr. Who was the president of the Council of Time Lords. My sources are various issues of Starlog magazine, British publications devoted to Dr. Who and the TV series.
