[edit]

In your Sept. 16 Dear Mark column, you answered a question about the Dr. Who series. I wish to correct two small errors. First, the show is called Dr. Who, but the main character is known only as "the Doctor" or "Doctor." Only in one episode ("The War Machines") was he referred to as Dr. Who, and that was a mistake. Secondly, the Doctor did not invent or create the Tardis. Since he is a Time Lord, it can be assumed he did have a part in its invention. My references are The Dr. Who Technical Manual and Dr. Who: A Celebration.

I'll take your word for it (although you might get an argument from Vincent Terrace, author of The Complete Encyclopedia of Television Programs: 1947-1979, who refers to the character as Dr. Who and calls him "the inventor of Tardis").
